Dr. Farzam Vazifehdan is a seasoned orthopedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience in spine surgery. He has been instrumental in integrating and reorganizing spine services, notably merging the spine unit with the neurosurgery department at the Hospital of Koblenz, where he headed the Department of Spine Surgery/Neurosurgery. Currently, he is overseeing the restructuring of the Spine Unit at Diakonie Klinikum in Stuttgart. Dr. Vazifehdan began his surgical career as Chief Staff Surgeon at St. Josefs-Hospital in Wiesbaden and now leads a multidisciplinary team of spine consultants and residents, driving advancements in spinal care.

Spine Surgery and Interdisciplinary Spine Unit Development

Professor Pietro Ruggieri, born in Taranto, Italy, in 1958, earned his medical degree from the University of Bologna in 1982. He completed his residency in Orthopedics in 1987 and went on to receive a PhD in Oncology in 1989. In 1996, he earned Board Certification in Orthopedics. A former mentee of the renowned Prof. Mario Campanacci, he also collaborated with Mario Mercuri during his early career. Professor Ruggieri expanded his expertise through fellowships at both the University of Florida and the Mayo Clinic. A prolific academic, he has authored over 800 scientific papers and delivered more than 500 presentations at global conferences. He is currently the Chair of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Oncology at the University of Padova, with a focus on musculoskeletal oncology

Dr. Michael Tanzer is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee replacement procedures. He received both his medical degree and residency training in orthopedic surgery from McGill University, where he developed a strong foundation in joint reconstruction and musculoskeletal care. Dr. Tanzer is known for his expertise in complex joint replacement surgeries and his commitment to improving patient outcomes through advanced surgical techniques.

Dr. Seth Yarboro is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Virginia, where he focuses on orthopedic trauma surgery. He is dedicated to the treatment of complex musculoskeletal injuries and brings academic and clinical expertise to the care of patients with traumatic orthopedic conditions. Dr. Yarboro is actively involved in teaching and research, contributing to advancements in trauma care and surgical techniques.
